Nearly all pharmaceuticals have technical, scientific names and many sound
very similar. It is easy to become confused as to exactly which type of drug
you require in order to relieve your pain or suffering. For example, there
are pills called Distalgesic, Kapake, Stilnox, Valium and Xanax: all of these
pills treat different conditions or problems, but from the names alone, the
average person would not be able to ascertain what conditions the products
are designed to treat.
From the names Distalgesic, Kapake, Stilnox, Valium and Xanax, it would be
impossible to know that Distalgesic and Kapake pills are for pain management,
that Stilnox is for helping to treat insomnia and that Valium and Xanax are
for anxiety and stress relief. Out of all of these, Valium and Xanax are possibly
the most well known trade names because they have appeared in the international
press the most often, giving the general public greater awareness of the product
and what they treat. But who outside of the pharmaceutical industry has heard
of Distalgesic, Kapake or Stilnox?
Distalgesic and Kapake are both strong pain management pills that provide
relief for chronic tension, pain and severe headaches. Distalgesic is a co-proxamol
based pill containing paracetamol and the opiate dextropropoxyphene. Opiates,
like those in Distalgesic, stop pain by mimicking neurotransmitters in the
brain, blocking the sensation of pain. The paracetamol in Distalgesic is also
a mild pain reliever that can also help reduce fevers. If you need a strong
pain reliever that hits pain quickly, then Distalgesic could be the right tablet
for you. Although Kapake is similar to Distalgesic in its pain relieving effects,
there are differences in its composition. The main difference is that Kapake
uses ingredients from the co-codamol family, meaning that Kapake contains a
mixture of both paracetamol and codeine. It is sometimes preferable for some
patients to use a codeine synthetic opiate, as in Kapake, rather than dextropropoxyphene.
Usually this because of an adverse reaction to concentrated amounts of one
of the ingredients. By using a combination drug such as Kapake, the reaction
can be minimised. If you need a good strong co-codamol-based tablet then Kapake
could be one to try.
Stilnox is a tablet used to treat insomnia, although once again there is no
hint as to Stilnox's nature from its name. Stilnox is a type of medication
known as a depressant, which helps to suppress the central nervous system.
Although this sounds dramatic, with medication such as Stilnox this has the
effect of helping the person taking the medication able to sleep easier. Stilnox
not only helps a person fall asleep, but can also improve the quality and the
length of time spent asleep. As with many insomnia treatments, Stilnox can
lose it effectiveness if taken for prolonged periods of time and should only
be taken for one or two weeks continually at most. However if you need a short-term
insomnia cure, perhaps to help establish a new sleeping pattern, Stilnox can
help.
Valium and Xanax also treat similar symptoms, specifically anxiety and stress.
Both of these drugs work in slightly different ways that may be more suitable
depending on the needs of the patient. Valium is a diazepam-based pill that
helps calm anxiety and agitation whilst other complementary prescribed mood
stabilisers take effect. Xanax contains alprazolam, which works in a similar
way to diazepam and reduces abnormal excitement in the brain that can be the
cause of stress and anxiety.
